I am shocked and demoralised by the Department of Health's submission to the pay review body saying that it cannot afford a 1 per cent pay rise for healthcare workers.I have always thought of the Department of Health (DH) as 'our' department, acting in 'our' best interests and the best interests of 'our' NHS. What has happened? Has it been politicised, hijacked or simply poisoned?Some of the recent statements from the DH and government ministers can only be described as a betrayal.
