摘要

Ro one approaches a boggy hollow quite as enthusiastically as children emboldened by stouty gumboots. They are drawn to ooze to splash and rootle like wild boar. We seem to grow out of the desire to squelch about at the bottom of the garden where mosquitoes hunt in packs and the weeds take over as soon as your back is turned. Surely, along with making a rockery, the idea of creating a bog garden has been resigned to garden history, hasn't it In her seminal 1970s work The Damp Garden, English plantswoman Beth Chattoexpounded the virtues of such architectural masterpieces as gunnera, rodgersiaand skunk cabbage, which luxuriate in specially dug hollows. But since then garden fashions have moved away from such delights and towards pebble gardens and window boxes. The tide, however, may be about to turn due to the popular concept of rain harvesting.
