Reporting on the performance of its first Next Generation Concrete Surface (NGCS), the Washington State Department of Transportation concluded that the pavement is "not a viable option as a noise mitigation strategy - for Washington State." WSDOT took on-board sound intensity (OBSI) measurements on a 1,500-foot test section installed in October 2010 and found that sound levels increased from 100.6 dBA to 104.4 dBA in 30 months.
