Sydney-based photographer, Steven Popovich, discovered his love of photography through his university course; a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communication at University of Western Sydney. Initially, his love of illustration fuelled his passion for the visual. Alter university, he went straight into a design job, working for an e-commerce company designing websites, and then into direct marketing. "I would always try to bring my photograph) skill set into each ol my design jobs. Popovich was able to explore his passion lor photograph) in a structured environment, working to a creative brief, pitches, shooting, retouching, designing and finishing art through to press checks. Once he decided to pursue photograph) as a career three years ago, Popovich initially freelanced as a digital operator and retoucher.
