As Canada's gas exports to the US continue shrinking as a result of rising shale gas production south of the border, Shell Canada is providing a measure of hope for the beleaguered industry by officially launching a multibillion-dollar LNG export terminal project in Kitimat, British Columbia — the new epicenter of the country's LNG industry. In October, Shell and its partners — PetroChina, South Korea's Kogas and Japan's Mitsubishi — purchased the Kitimat Marine Terminal from Cenovus Energy and said they were exploring the potential for an LNG export terminal on the site (NGW Oct.24'11).
