Late last month, a simple notice from the University of London sent the scientific world into a frenzy—methane had been detected on a planet orbiting a sun almost 63 light years from the Earth in the constellation Vulpecula. It's also becoming a shining star in NASA's plans for deep space missions. An abundant fuel source on Earth, it's even more abundant in the Solar System and NASA engineers and their contractors are eyeing methane as a possible fuel source for deep space rockets.
