Behaviour of the community of nematode trapping fungi isolated from the rhizosphere of Citrus naturally infested with Tylenchulus semipenetrans

Behaviour of the community of nematode trapping fungi isolated from the rhizosphere of Citrus naturally infested with Tylenchulus semipenetrans. Twelve strains of nematode trapping fungi were isolated from the rhizosphere of Citrus naturally infested by Tylenchulus semipenetrans. The fungi were identified and evaluated for their growth ability, their predation activity and their interaction with Citrus roots. The study showed that the fungus species Arthrobotrys oligospora, A. conoides, A. musiformis, three strains of the fungus Meristacrum sp. and Monacrosporium rutgeriensis grew rapidly, while A. dactyloides and Monacrosporium cionopagum had slow growth at 16,5, 20, 25 and 30 degrees C. Only two strains of Meristacrum (SKAN MC and MCCB) grew at the extreme temperature of 35 degrees C. Monacrosporium cionopagum gave the highest percentage (80%) capture of the second stage juveniles of T. semipenetrans after 72 hours at 25 degrees C. Further, the roots of Citrus affected the growth speed of the majority of the nematode trapping fungi isolated: Meristacrum (SKAN MC, MCCB), A. conoides (RCA, C), A. oligospora (LA), A. dactyloides (ADCB) and M. cionopagum (CBM).
