Link-Drive Transfer Press, Unique Tooling Cut Material and Tooling Costs

Theta Industries Ltd., Barrie, Ontario, Canada, has developed a deep-draw transfer stamping process to produce chassis components such as stainless-steel engine-mount parts from a single blank, reducing material costs and eliminating welding. Combined savings of more than 30 percent are achieved compared to the previously used progressive-die stamping. Other formed automotive parts that have a complex shape, including a fuel filler tube, also are being produced using this strategy, which combines a special link-drive press, transfer automation and unique tooling.
