Trachte Building Systems, headquartered in Sun Prairie, WI, is a nationally recognized leader in the self-storage industry. Since 1901, Trachte has been transforming sheet metal into useful products. The company began to manufacture products such as water tanks, boats, feed troughs and oil storage tanks, to name a few. The company took a significant turn in 1919 when it sold its first steel building, a garage manufactured to house the founder's new Dodge automobile.In the 1920's Trachte's buildings gained popularity when its steel buildings replaced fire-prone wooden cotton gin structures. With that, the product line began to take on new shapes and sizes with structures for warehousing, gas stations, restaurants, airplane hangers, automobile dealerships, store fronts and even summer collages.
