Italian producers of merchant bars drop prices

Prices for ferrous scrap have fallen by EUR 55-65/t in February in Italy and so local producers of merchant bars havealso had to reduce their quotations. Thus, domestic offers of the material have lost EUR 30-40/t in the same period. Atthe same time local buyers still have quite high stocks of the material, as they substantially replenished them duringDecember-January. Italian buyers can afford to refrain from purchasing the products until the further price trendbecomes clear. Quotations of merchant bars are most likely to increase in view of an upturn in prices for scrap,forecast to happen shortly.
