I am plagued these days by people offering me financial advice. I get calls from advisors almost as often as from call centres offering me cheaper phone services. Some use the term wealth management services to describe what they could do on my behalf, I wonder how they would manage my wealth? And how would they measure it? We usually measure wealth in terms of money in the bank, or value of assets. This fundamental view is carried through to the highest levels - even the Federal Treasurer uses the concept. Some recent economic indicators suggested that economic growth has slowed or even stopped, and I heard various commentators on serious radio stations talk about how the economy "had stopped." Not stopped growing, but stopped.
