DEMAND OUTLOOK FOR ALUMINUM PRODUCTS IN JAPAN FOR FY2006 (April 2006-March 2007)

Aluminum Survey Committee, composed of seven aluminum industry bodies, including the Japan Aluminium Association and Japan Aluminium Alloy Refiners Association, recently released Japan's fiscal year 2006 demand outlook for aluminum products. The outlook projects that domestic demand will grow 1.6 percent in fiscal 2006 from the estimated actual for the corresponding period a year earlier to 4,181,000 tons; exports are expected to decrease by 0.4 percent to 229,000 tons. According to the outlook, demand will rewrite the previous record by increasing 1.5 percent and total will reach an all-time high of 4,410,000 tons.
