The increase in popularity of minimum, and no-tillage, cropping systems has given rise to a new-management issue - crop residue. Last harvest's high-yielding crops led to high-stubble loads and the management of that stubble and crop residue was a keyfactor at sowing earlier this year. Retaining stubble has a variety of benefits, but when it's combined with inter-row sowing and other cropping developments such as controlled traffic machinery use, stubble has to be managed the right way and to fit specific crop-growing systems.
