Depending on budget and expectations, investment and planning a grain-storage facility requires a range of considerations. While not an exclusive check list, this section details some of the more common aspects of on-farm grain storage facilities to consider if planning to invest in on-farm grain storage systems regardless of the storage type. Continuous loop roads around the grain-storage facility requiring minimal, or no, reversing are ideal and can dramatically improve loading and unloading ratesas well as minimising damage to equipment through accidental collision. An ample-sized pad to permit auger or grain conveyor access and ease of shifting should be allotted.
