Killing difficult summer fallow weeds

New research offers hope in the perennial war against summer weeds. GRDC's Rob Freebairn reports on the progress achieved on improved herbicide options and techniques as well as emphasising the need for timely control to maximise herbicide effectiveness. Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) Advisory Committees in NSW have rated difficult-to-control fallow weeds as a high-priority problem. This includes weeds such as flax-leaf fleabane (Conyza bonariensis), milk thistle (Sonchus ole.race.us) and windmill grass (Chloris truncata), as well as other fallow weeds developing resistance to glyphosate (for example awnless barnyard grass — Echinochloa colona).
