摘要

Two new producer-driven Landcare projects are investigating innovative ways to protect soil and preserve moisture levels. Jesse Blackadder gives Farming Ahead the rundown on the projects and highlights the potential key outcomes. From alpine areas tosemi-arid rangelands — the Murrumbidgee region covers them" all. Across this diverse landscape farming enterprises include dairying, broadacre cropping, intensive agriculture and horticulture. The region's producers have worked hard to improve their sustainability — with great progress. While an 18-month drought during 1981-1982 saw thousands of tonnes of topsoil blow away, improved farming practices have meant savvy farmers are now much better prepared to face similar hardships without damaging the land.
