Across this diverse landscape farming enterprises include dairying, broadacre cropping, intensive agriculture and horticulture. The region's producers have worked hard to improve their sustainability — with great progress. While an 18-month drought during 1981-1982 saw thousands of tonnes of topsoil blow away, improved farming practices have meant savvy farmers are now much better prepared to face similar hardships without damaging the land.
