Ressessment of insect damage raises spray thresholds

Insects in a crop may not necessarily inflict economic loss and a re-evaluation of damage in pulses has revealed the benefits of holding off pesticide applications. A project investigating integrated pest management (IPM) strategies for pulse growersin Queensland and northern New South Wales has identified scenarios where pests are not inflicting economic damage on crops, and do not need to be sprayed with insecticides, contrary to conventional industry practice.
