Classical Gas: The lure of the Classic Throttle Shop's cruise and track thrash proves irresistible for our own Paul Cockbum

Whether resident or rubbernecker, Sydneysiders blessed with both mechanical nostalgia and hunger have some truly wondrous places to find satisfaction. And just as soon as this magazine discovers that bikes have MOTORS, too, the food and two-wheeled wonders of Deus Ex Machina in Camperdown will be sung (very) loudly between these covers. But when only four wheels suffice, it's the Classic Throttle Shop that calls. Founded in 2003 by Rory and Karin Johnston, the shop not only sells some of the world's great cars, but backs up the ease of their ownership with a comprehensive maintenance service. Situated in North Sydney (only just - it's beneath the Harbour Bridge's approach ramps), the shop fills its cavernous space with approximately 50 classics in a broad church that ranges from '60s- '80s Europeans through to the muscle-car legends of America, on to the best of Japan and the less subtle brutes that could only call Australia home.
