HOLDEN'S range of V8s has been assured a long-term future despite confirmation of a more fuel-friendly overhaul for the Commodore range. Against a backdrop of increasing environmental pressures, and declining sales of traditional Aussie large cars, GM is considering a radical revamp of the Commodore's powertrain lineup, including the shock revelation that a four-cylinder engine could make a return for the first time since the wheezy 1.9-litre Starfire four-banger was dropped in 1983.
