Over the last two decades there has been an ever-growing interest by both industry and governmental regulators in the application as well as development of high-throughput technologies to assess risk associated with the toxicological effects of chemicals and environmental stressors. The development of large-scale "Omic" strategies such as DNA expression microarrays, DNA sequencing, and mass spectroscopy has made this possible. These "Omic" technologies have been especially important for understanding the many relationships between genes as well as the molecular mechanisms of chemical and environmental toxicities that may impact human health. These "Onnic"-tools provide information of potential use in safety and risk assessment. Thus they are worthy of consideration by regulatory agencies that set standards and guidelines. The field of studies using these tools is referred to as "Toxicogenomics".
