20th ANNIVERSARY OF THE JOURNAL 'MOLEKULYARNAYA GENETIKA, MIKROBIOLOGIYA I VIRUSOLOGIYA' [MOLECULAR GENETICS, MICROBIOLOGY AND VIROLOGY]

This issue of the journal is an anniversary issue. The journal is 20 years old. This is quite little from the standpoint of physical age, but it is a whole epoch from the standpoint of the events that have occurred during this time in the life of our country and in science, which the journal has been called upon to represent. It is not the place to give political opinions in the pages of a scientific journal. Let us say only that both molecular genetics and microbiology and virology, as well as all the other sciences in the country, have been in a struggle for survival and that the journal exists and that it continues to publish experimental studies and review articles by Russian scientists means that science is alive and that there is a scientific potential capable of giving rise to new knowledge, despite all the difficulties. This is very remarkable and inspires optimism in us, the people who are publishing this journal and are often faced with the question of whether it is advisable to continue its publication. However, there are still those who are producing scientific results, albeit modest ones in view of the circumstances; there are still those who read it attentively - the publication of the journal is justified. I shall not present statistics on circulation, number of articles published in the 20 years; I shall say only that these are important articles for our scientists and not only for our own, because the journal is being systematically translated into the English language by the publisher Allerton Press and is cited by international databases, in particular, Pubmed.
