Matthew Murray's Rack Locomotive of 1812 for the Middleton Railway: Anthony Mount fits the cylinder, the footplate and the water pump assembly

The cladding around the top of the cylinders (Parts 38 - no drawing - and 77) is yet another cut and try job. I can't draw out the shapes as each one will need to be fitted individually. However, we can cheat a little and provide a foundation for the wooden strips in metal. I used a piece of 60mm dia. mild steel tube and cut off a length 60mm long. This was first drilled with a 6mm dia. cross hole in the middle and then held in the lathe and bored out to leave a wall thickness of 1mm for a depth of about 18 millimetres.
