BIOFUEL USE IN POWER GENERATION SO FAR NO SUCCESS STORY

State-owned electricity supplier PT PLN said its biofuel use at power plants in Jan/Jun 2014 was far below the mandated volume, according to local daily The Jakarta Post. The company only burned around 85 mln litres, less than 12% of the 800 mln litre (20% vol.) target for 2014. To reach this target, the company needs higher biodiesel blends (B-20/-40). However, state-owned oil and gas supplier, PT Pertamina, merely offers B-10, the blend needed to meet the mandate in the transport sector. The latter stated that PT PLN has not yet officially asked for higher blends.
