CELLULOSIC ETHANOL PRODUCER VERENIUM INCREASES LOSSES IN 2008

Chemicals provider and cellulosic ethanol producer Verenium reported losses of $185.54 mln for 2008, compared with a minus of $107.59 mln in the preceding year. Revenues rose to $69.66 mln from $46.27 mln. The company said gross profit and gross margins improved in the fourth quarter due primarily to growth in Phyzyme sales. The company has reduced its temporary and permanent work force since January 1, 2009 by 15%.
