RFA SEES 38% INCREASE IN 2008 FUEL ALCOHOL OUTPUT

Industry group the Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) said 2008 fuel alcohol output was an estimated 9.0 bln gallons, up by 38% on the 6.5 bln in 2007. 2006 fuel alcohol output was 4.9 bln gallons, the RFA said. The states with the highest operating ethanol production capacity in January 2009 were Iowa (2.9 bln gallons) and Illinois (1.2 bln). The RFA estimated in January 2009 that 10.6 bln gallons of annual ethanol production capacity are presently operating, against a name-plate production capacity of 12.5 bln.
