Laboratory tests have shown that cold-curing polyester resin/sand cappings are superior, in terms of their static, fatigue and impact. strengths, to conventional white metal cappings. The resin/sand mixture flows more easily around the 'brushed' wires and penetrates further down into the neck of the socket than white metal. The resin capping process does not cause a loss of lubricant in that part of the rope which is inside the neck of the socket. As a consequence of the above three factors resin cappings should result in greacer safety factors, and an enhanced performance under arduous conditions, than white metal cappings when cast into identical sockets.
