Brecon national park tries to slam door on quarrying

The Brecon Beacons National Park Authority (BBNPA) has chosen to disregard the requests of the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) to include a safeguard for sand and gravel extraction in its development plan (see MQR Nov/Dec 2006). Members of the BBNPA voted unanimously to reject the direction from the WAG on the basis that current national policy did not apply and so the direction was "ill-founded." The move was supported by the Council for National Parks.
