Headlights that adapt to direction first appeared decades ago. While the mechanical method had limited take up, current technology has prompted more interest among manufacturers. Directional headlights that shine round corners when the steering wheel is moved from the straight ahead position are nothing new in terms of vehicle technology. They first appeared on Czech-built vehicles in the 1930s. It was pioneered and brought to the mass market by the progressive French car manufacturer Citroen on the now classic DS built between 1955 and 1975 and was technology that carried over into the SM too.
