In the second of our Management & Leadership series of articles, MIM looks into why attracting new talent to lead the sector forward is no small feat: and with a lack of consistency in management and leadership, it is clear that a new approach is needed. The HR Director (HRD) Forum is working closely with the IMI to embed an industry common standard for Management & Leadership to increase consistency and raise the game for new and existing managers in the industry. The HRD Forum is an independent body with representation from the majority of the 'top ten' UK car retailing groups. The collective group recognises that, by working together, it can achieve a greater impact on recruitment, learning and careers and thereby positively influence the reputation of the industry as an attractive place to work. One of the core objectives of the Forum is to ensure that industry training delivers benefits to the individual, the employer and the brand, to collectively build the capability of the people and enable better and more targeted training investment. Through a common competency framework there will be commonality of qualifications, which will enable people to move across the industry and minimise the duplication in training between OEMs and retailers.
