The drill rigs are now sitting on top of the huge dumps at the Innes Mills mine in New Zealand, which was mothballed and largely filled in more than a decade ago and destined to history. But the project is showing new promise -just as is the completed Southern and Round Hill pits on the same line of strike at Macraes, the country's premier gold operation about an hour's drive north-north west of Dunedin. This quest is just one of several being undertaken with the new zest for exploration that OceanaGold Corporation has shown in the past 18 months. This development was triggered by the phenomenal gold price in Kiwi dollar terms and the need to find longer term reserves at both Macraes and Reefton on the South Island's west coast.
