Controversial Tarkine iron ore mine approved

The Federal Government has approved development of Shree Minerals, $20 million hematite/magnetite open-cut mine near Nelson Bay River in north-western Tasmania. Shree has had an approved mining lease and all necessary State and local Government environmental and planning approvals for some time, and was only waiting on the Commonwealth Environment Minister, Tony Burke, to give the final approval after two years of studies.
