But he also knows this has more to do with a failure by investors to recognise the mining house's achievements rather than its recent sturdy performance. In just over a year the company has dewatered and recommissioned the Blair underground nickel mine near Kambalda in Western Australia, generated sufficient capital to repay a bank loan and made money from a small nickel hedge program to now be in a debt free position. "For some reason everyone seems to think we've been sitting on our hands," Cahill said. "Although the results for the year did not meet those forecast in the September 2003 scoping study, the company has still managed to get a nickel mine into profitable production within a 12 month time frame."
