Mining surpasses tourism as number one export earner

The uranium sector may take heart in what Queensland Minister for Natural Resources & Mines Henry Palaszczuk had to say on the issue at the recent Mining 2005 Resources Convention in Brisbane. While he acknowledged the state government's clear anti uranium mining position, he did not rule it out entirely when he told delegates "you never know". Reflecting on total sales from the state, he said coal, minerals and petroleum sales from Queensland for 2004/05 will be 16 billion dollars with government royalties from those sales nearly 1 billion dollars.
