If supply chain management is becoming increasingly important to the success of commercial organisations, then its puzzling why so many of the characteristics that one would expect to find are absent. That's the quintessence of a landmark supply chain research project conducted by Portland Group, the Australasian Production and Inventory Control Society (apics) and the Australian School of Business. Researchers undertook a large-scale review of supply chain practices, priorities, successes and challenges for Australian and New Zealand companies. The survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews with supply chain executives from predominantly ASX Top 200 companies across a variety of industries ranging from the resources sector to the retail trade.
