摘要

A water modeling mathematical modeling for a typical billet continuous casting tundish was designed and constructed to determine flow patterns characteristics when using a turbulence inhibitor and different baffle. Nine designs were studied: the tundish without flow control devices, the tundish with a turbulence inhibitor at the bottom together with eight different structure baffle, respectively. Water modeling was used to measure the residence time distribution(RTD) and investigate dead zone fractions and fluid patterns. Then, the mathematical modeling was carried out with the computational fluid dynamic software, FLUENT. So in the mathematical, fluid flow, heat transfer and mass transfer were calculated. The rtsults indicated that the tundish with a turbulence inhibitor and baffle 3 (case 3) was the best design which has a perfect fluid flow characteristics. So using this system must contribute to improving the productivity and cleanliness of the continuous casting steel.
