Salt Sequestration Many mesemb species are possibly unusual among succulents in that they sequestrate 'larger' volumes of salt into their tissues. There is also some evidence that this allows 'saltier' leaves to absorb water through their stomata during humid nights. Species with thin walled leaves such as many Drosanthemum species are considered by some authorities to possibly have such ability.
