摘要

The Copenhagen Muscle Research Centre is widely known for its innovative and invasive studies in exercising human subjects and this paper in the current issue of Free Radical Biology and Medicine describes some of their recent studies that are particularly novel, describing one of the first uses of microdialysis techniques to examine interstitial reactive oxygen species (ROS) in a human tissue (skeletal muscle). This new paper presents interesting data that contribute significantly to the current debate regarding the role of superoxide, other ROS, and antioxidants in modulating exercise-induced changes in gene expression in human skeletal muscle, but it is the use of microdialysis to examine interstitial superoxide in human muscle that makes the work particularly novel.
