Context and setting As a specialist paediatric centre with an international reputation, our hospital attracts a great number of overseas-trained doctors (OTDs). Although their clinical skills are excellent, gaps in other areas of knowledge have been highlighted, with particular reference to:the organisational culture of the National Health Service (NHS);communication (interprofessional, inter-agency, and with patients and families), and professional roles within the multidisciplinary team.In addition, there is a relative paucity of support networks - both professional and pastoral - for doctors new to the UK
