Context and setting Skills that gain importance later in careers fail to find purchase in the pre-clinical years. Evidence-based medicine (EBM) often pales in perceived importance in comparison with more immediately relevant pre-clinical courses; thus, novel strategies targeting issues of relevancy are needed.Why the idea was necessary At our institution, eight 1-hour sessions are allotted to the EBM course. We elected to maximise curricular time by adhering to three learning objectives: (i) forming well-focused clinical questions; (ii) effectively searching the literature, and (iii) critically appraising the journal articles identified.What was done All Year 2 medical students were organised into stable team-based learning (TBL) groups.
