Context and setting There currently is not an adequate workforce trained to address the geriatric and palliative medicine needs of the oldest segment of the population. One solution is for those trained in geriatric medicine or palliative medicine to remain in academia to educate new clinicians entering the workforce.Why the idea was necessary To increase their interest in academic careers and their chances of succeeding in such careers, geriatric medicine and palliative medicine fellows-in-training need to learn about the non-clinical aspects of academic medical careers and obtain the tools required to achieve academic success. What was done We developed a monthly, 1.5-hour seminar for geriatric medicine and palliative medicine fellows (adapted from Medina-Walpole et al. ). We expanded the model to include topics of interest to both geriatric medicine and palliative medicine fellows.
