Education Grant:Glamorgan Maths 2012 Annual Lecture

On a Wednesday afternoon in December, some 200 enthusi-astic young people and their teachers gathered together from schools in Wales and the South West of England to attend Glamorgan's Annual Mathematics Lectures. This is the fourth year we have held the event. Its aim was to highlight the relevance and usefulness of mathematics in the work place. We invite keynote speakers from industry, business and/or academia to demonstrate how they use and apply mathematics in their daily work and thereby highlight both the relevance and usefulness of mathematics to young people. The event has grown in popularity each year and is now fully established in our suite of outreach events. Perhaps I could begin, though, by setting our Annual Lecture in its proper context in relation to other maths outreach events we do at Glamorgan.
