An update from the 'A' team

The February issue of Materials World highlighted the work of the IoM Education team in pioneering the development of a Materials 'A' level. In the pat two months, considerable support for the project has been received from groups as diverse as the Examination Boards, industry bodies and teaching staff. Commenting on the proposal, Mr Peter Stokes, Head of Design from Eckington High School, one of three schools that have received funding from the EEF to support them in their bid to become specialist engineering schools, said, 'Eckington School can see an enormous advantage in the development of the Materials subject areas as an 'AS' and 'A' level. This would bring about a step change in the understanding and importance of materials for young people and would interact with and make relevant so many other parts of the National Curriculum.'
