The authors summarised the zoonotic diseases of exotic pet mammals, having potential risk to people living around the animals. The bacterial infections (staphylococcosis, streptococcosis, listeriosis, corynebacterium-infection, tuberculosis, rat bite fever, salmonellosis, pasteurellosis, tularemia, bordetellosis, helicobacteriosis, bartonellosis, plague, yersiniosis, campylobacteriosis, leptospirosis) are discussed in the first part of the article. The agent of the diseases, affected species and main symptoms are presented and advices are given for preventing the transmission of diseases to humans.
