The idea of manufacturing beams with a corrugated web is nothing new. Until now, however, the difficulty lay in the fact that, in conventional manufacturing processes, the cost advantage of such beams derived from the saving in weight was lost again due to the increased cost of manufacture. The key to a successful application therefore lay in developing an efficient automated manufacturing process for these beams.
