Helping honeybees in mite fight

New ways to control a deadly mite now threatening to wipe out colonies of honeybees on Vancouver Island are being developed at Simon Fraser University. And the three graduate students known as "the mite group" say the North American beekeepers are watching. "There's an urgency to this work," said Adony Melathopoulos, who is testing natural plant oils as potentially safe, inexpensive and efficient mite control agents. "The mite is a fact of life for beekeepers. But it can be controlled."
