The Swiss deciduous fruit industry is expecting a sharp decline in production this year. According to the Swiss Federal Office for Agriculture, the apple crop 2010 is estimated at 92,300 t, representing a minus of 23% compared to the previous year. The wet and cold spring weather, particularly in May and June, with spring frosts in some areas is responsible for the lowest crop forecast since 1997.The fruit sizes predicted by experts are considerably smaller than in the previous year.
