The worldwide trend towards organic products has triggered off an unprecedented run on these items: ever since the supermarket chains entered the market, the demand has increased rapidly, causing great concern for long-time producers. They think thatthe principle of "quantity not quantity" is in danger, and they fear that their credibility will suffer if organic produces comes from the production line or is transported across entire continents by plane or ship.
