Organic fruit and vegetables may have started life in the UK as a highly specialised niche market so u reed from small growers dedicated to the ideals of pesticide free food. But today it is a multimillion pound sector which because of consumer demandhas encouraged producers world-wide to rise to the challenge. It is estimated that four out of every ten British consumers regularly buy products and the figure is still expanding.
