Spanish citrus campaign is stagnating

Virtually overnight, the Spanish citrus campaign has come to a standstill. After a very promising start with high sales activities and a fast harvesting pace, an oversupply of the markets suddenly stopped this development in November and prices dropped dramatically. This happened not for the first time. Every once in a while the fruits are put on the market too early which consequently leads to financial disaster. At the beginning of the campaign the Spanish citrus crop was considered normal. The government of Valencia estimated production at approx. 3.5 million t compared with 3.25 million t in the previous season.
