Israel's exports of herbs are expected to grow by 20% annually due to its ability to supply quality products year-round and by bringing new herbs to the market. The cultivation of fresh herbs in Israel is one of the fastest growing sectors in the country's agri-cultural infrastructure. Fresh herbs are grown on nearly 2,500 hectares in various parts of the country, almost all in greenhouses equipped with automatic climatic and atmospheric control and fertigation systems. There are about 200 accreditedgrowers, who are contracted by the export companies to supply them with produce, according to a pre-planned program based on client's requirements. It is estimated that the total export of fresh herbs in 2005 by all exporters will amount to between 10,000 and 11,000 tonnes, valued at 60 million EUR, compared with 5,000 tonnes just three years ago.
